Hovenweep National Park – Colorado

We enjoyed visiting Hovenweep National Park. We were able to take the dogs with us on the two mile hike through the ruins. The girls were very well behaved. It was very tranquil and peaceful while visiting there. You are able to walk really close to the ruins. It has been over 700 years since the Pueblo Indian tribes have lived there. You can take your time and pause and imagine what life was like during that time…wow. Enjoy the photos.

Four Corners – Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Arizona

We visited the Four Corners. There really wasn’t much out there….We have flown over Four Corners, so it was fun to go stand on the actual marker. We can now check it off the bucket list.

Mesa Verde – Cortez, Colorado

We really enjoyed staying at Cortez, Colorado. It is a beautiful area. The weather was perfect. We visited Mesa Verde National Park. We took a tour of the Cliff Palace. It was amazing to see what the Ancestral Pueblo people built over 700 years ago. The Cliff Palace is the largest dwelling in North America. The Cliff Palace includes about 150 rooms, 75 constructed open areas and 21 Kivas. I’m afraid our ranger who conducted the tour wasn’t that great, but being able to walk thru the open areas was amazing. This is only one place in the park, there was so much more to explore….maybe next time.

Bernalillo – Alburquerque

We left Texas and are working our way to Utah, then Idaho, Oregon and back to California. We spent a few nights at the KOA in Bernalillo which is just North of Albuquerque. We really didn’t have a lot of time to go visit a lot of places. One of the really fun things in this campground was the local brewery right next door. It was a great place to visit….they had great wild game sausage and the beer was good too! We were allowed to bring the dogs and stay on the outdoor patio. Here are some of the fun photos from the brewery.

They do have an interesting yard surrounding the brewery, which makes it all the more fun!

We went to the Petroglyph National Monument. It was a short 1.5 mile loop to see some of the Petroglyph’s and the cool thing was dogs were allowed on this trail. We only made it a quarter of a mile, before Abby decided it was to hot and she wasn’t going to walk any further, she laid down and wouldn’t move forward. We turned around and headed back to the car and she was fine, so I have no photos of any petroglyphs…only the sign at the visitor center. Oh, well, it happens.

We took a day trip to Santa Fe with the girls…they did very well with all the people and dogs. One of the good things when you go with dogs, it keeps you out of stores, so you don’t spend a lot of money…I did go into a church and there was a service going on, so no photos inside there either…it happens. It was still a great day walking around. One of the hot dog carts gave each of the girls a free hotdog…that was really nice.

Lake Whitney – Whitney, Texas

We spent a week at Lake Whitney at our Thousand Trails campground. The campground was very nice and had a lot of hiking trails. Kelly was happy because there was a golf course right next door. We didn’t find a lot of activities to do in the town of Whitney, so the girls and I took a lot of hikes in the park. They had very nice trails. The only negative to the hiking trails was, the girls came home with at least one tick a day. The good news, none of the ticks stayed on the dogs, they always got off and I would find them before they found me. Here are few photos from around the campground. It was just a nice relaxing week.

This was the view of the lake while on a hiking trail.
